A training course for new(ish) users of S+

Course Description

The Getting Started course provides users with the knowledge to get the most out of the S+ GUI & Command line. Course content includes Introduction to the S-PLUS GUI, Visualisation including Trellis Graphics, Data Import/Export, Data Manipulation & Analysis, writing your own simple functions & efficient programming.

Personal computers are provided and the course presentations are backed up by frequent practical sessions.

Who will Benefit?

All new and relatively new users to S-PLUS. This course has largely been developed with input from our customers.  Through experience in providing S-PLUS technical support and using it regularly for data analysis, the presenters have gained insight into the areas where users have the greatest need for knowledge. 

Included

Introduction to the GUI and command line, data manipulation, interactive and editable graphics, command line graphics, basic statistical models through the GUI and command line, and how to write simple functions.  Efficient use of S-PLUS tools, such as data import/export, avoiding repetitive typing/clicking, file management.

Recommended Prerequisites

No experience in S-PLUS is necessary.  Please note that the course is not intended as an introductory statistics course.  It is recommended that all course participants have an elementary knowledge of statistics/data analysis, and some familiarity with the Windows operating system.
