Based on the S programming language, S-PLUS® offers a powerful environment for developing custom data analysis applications. Unlike other "black box" data analysis products, S-PLUS is a completely open system-- you can modify any of the more than 4, 200 existing functions or develop new models to meet your specific requirements. The S-PLUS engine can be easily embedded within other applications or systems using our CONNECT/C++ or CONNECT/Java technologies.

The S Language

At the core of S-PLUS is the "S" language developed at Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T Bell Labs). The only language created specifically for data visualization and exploration, statistical modeling and programming with data, S provides a rich, object-oriented environment designed for interactive data discovery and statistical data mining.

CONNECT/C++

The CONNECT/C++ Foundation Class Library is an object-oriented C++ interface to the S engine that allows C++ developers to write a client program using data objects and structures from the S engine, run S functions, and evaluate S syntax and process the results.
