Benefits of an Academic S+ Site License

• An unlimited number of students in the university can use the full version of S+ on their laptops/home computers for free – their licenses are not counted in with the users.
• The fees are based on the maximum likely number of users, so the license is tailor-made to the actual use being made of the software.
• The license is not confined to one department, even though it might be administered by the one with the most interest.
• You can install S-PLUS on any number of platforms, for up to the number of licensed users, including stand alone and network installations.

The ‘users’ refer to the actual number of S+ user installations.  For example, a 50 user Site License might have a 10 user Solaris server installation, a 5 user Linux, a 20 user Windows server, plus 15 Windows stand alone desktop installations.

The smallest Site License is for 50 users, and they increase in steps of 25.  The administrator is expected to keep a count of the number of users dispensed, particularly the stand alone copies.  They must inform SolutionMetrics if the use has reached the limit of registered users and increase the size of the license. 

The largest Site License is for 999 Users: S+ on every machine at the university (Great Value)

A Site License is an annual license, ie the fees have to be paid each year to continue using the software, but the cost per user is greatly reduced.  

All the modules can be added to the license for a small extra charge.  If the module use is likely to be minimal, they can be purchased as individual licenses at the normal perpetual rate.

Academic Multi User License for S-PLUS & I-Miner

If a 50 user license is still too large for your needs, maybe a Multi-user license is appropriate.

- 25 user server license (lab) – can be either Windows, Linux or Unix: S-PLUS and/or I-Miner is loaded on a central server, usually accessible by staff and students.  Up to 25 S-PLUS sessions can be run simultaneously.  This is a renewable license, ie the fees have to be paid each year to continue using the software, but you get a lot of use for your money.    

- 10 pack Windows stand alone desktop license: The software can be loaded on up to 10 Windows desktop machines, and can be used by staff and students.  This is also a renewable license, ie the fees have to be paid each year to continue using the software.
